Watching Earth from Space

NASA has tracked some devastating natural disasters from space including this shot of Hurricane Katrina as it picked up steam before hitting land. This image was taken by the GOES-12 satellite on August 29, 2005.


Smoky evidence of the terrorist attacks on New York City is shown in this photo from the International Space Station on September 11, 2001.


This image from a gigantic dust storm over China was taken by the Terra satellite on April 7, 2001. Dust from the storm spread as far as Maryland in the United States.


Here, the Great Wall of China can be seen.


If this caption said that this was from Mars, would you have believed us? It's actually a section of the Algerian desert photographed from the International Space Station.
